Displaying & Reading Trouble Codes

Self-diagnosis for TCS c/u

TCS CONTROL UNIT L.E.D.
The TCS control unit has one L.E.D.

Description
Self-diagnosis is functioning as long as the engine is running. To obtain complete self-diagnosis results, the vehicle must be driven above 30 km/h (19 MPH) for at least one minute, then the malfunction code read while the engine is running. The malfunction code is indicated by the number of flashes of the L.E.D. as shown above.

For example, the L.E.D. flashes five times for 0.5 seconds. This indicates the number "5", and refers to a malfunction in the front left wheel sensor circuit. In this way, the problems are classified by their code numbers.

NOTE: If TCS control unit displays code No.13, refer to throttle control module (T.C.M.) for self-diagnosis.

If more than two circuits should malfunction at the same time, the L.E.D. flashes to indicate one of the malfunctioning circuits. After the circuit has been repaired, the L.E.D. will flash the other code number when self-diagnosis is carried out again properly.

Retention of diagnostic results
This control unit does not have a memory for self-diagnostic results. Therefore, the malfunction code number is erased each time the ignition switch is turned OFF.

Self-diagnosis for T.C.M.

T.C.M. L.E.D.
The T.C.M. has only one L.E.D.

Description
Self-diagnosis is always functioning as long as the ignition switch is set in the "0N" or "START" position.
The malfunction code is indicated by the number of flashes of the L.E.D. as shown above:

Example: Code No.12 and Code No.33

Long (0.6 second) blinking indicates the number of ten digits and short (0.3 second) blinking indicates the number of single digits.
For example, the L.E.D. flashes once for 0.6 seconds and then it flashes twice for 0.3 seconds. This indicates the number "12" and refers to a malfunction in the secondary throttle sensor circuit. In this way, all the problems are classified by their code numbers.

Retention of diagnostic results
Most of the diagnostic results will remain in the T.C.M. memory
The T.C.M. memory concerning the following three items is erased after a normal signal is issued.

How to erase self diagnostic results
The self-diagnostic results stored in the T.C.M. can be erased by any of the following three methods.
(1) Depress the accelerator fully (1st throttle) and set the neutral switch to OFF (automatic transmission is in other than "P" and "N" positions). In this state, turn ON the ignition key (engine need not be started). After this, set the neutral switch to ON, and release the accelerator. This will erase the diagnostic results of all items.
(2) If diagnostic judgment on a particular item remains OK and no NG judgment is made while the ignition key is turned ON 50 times, the diagnostic results on that item are erased.
(3) If the backup power supply is disconnected for more than one minute, the diagnostic results on all items are erased. In addition, the values learned by the system are also erased.
