A/C Refrigerant

AIR CONDITIONING REFRIGERANT PRECAUTIONS
R134A Refrigerant
1. R-12 and R-134a refrigerant must never be mixed. If refrigerants are mixed, compressor failure will probably occur.
2. When filling system with oil, use specified A/C System lubricant. If specified oil is not used, compressor failure will probably occur.
3. Nissan A/C System Type R Part No. KLH00-PAGRO or equivalent refrigerant oil absorbs moisture from the atmosphere at a rapid rate, the following precautions must be followed when using this lubricant:
a. When removing components from the vehicle, immediately cap component to minimize the entry of moisture from the atmosphere.
b. When installing components on a vehicle, do not remove cap until just before connecting components. Complete connection of all refrigerant loop components as quickly as possible to minimize entry of moisture into system.
c. Use specified lubrication oil from a sealed container only. Containers must be sealed immediately after dispensing lubrication oil. Lubrication oil in containers which are not properly sealed will become moisture saturated.
d. Avoid breathing A/C refrigerant and lubricant vapor or mist. Exposure may irritate eyes, nose and throat.
e. When removing refrigerant from the system, always use service equipment certified by the requirements of SAE J2210 (R-134a recycling equipment) or J2209 (R-134a recovery equipment). If accidental system discharge does occur, ventilate work area before resuming system service.
f. Do not allow lubrication oil to come in contact with styrofoam parts. Damage may result.

R12 Refrigerant
1. Do not release refrigerant into the air. Use approved recovery/recycling equipment to capture refrigerant every time the A/C system is discharged.
2. Always wear eye and hand protection when working with any A/C system.
3. Do not store or heat refrigerant containers above 125°F (52°C).
4. Do not heat refrigerant with an open flame, if container needs warming, place bottom of container in a warm pail of water.
5. Keep refrigerant away from open flames, a poisonous gas will be produced if refrigerant burns.
6. Refrigerant will displace oxygen, be certain to work in a well ventilated area.
7. Do not introduce compressed air to any refrigerant container or component.
