SERVICE INFORMATION

Some owners of 1994 or 1995 Q45 vehicles may experience a low/rough idle condition after mileage accumulation (over 3,000). The symptoms appear to be the same as an improperly set base idle speed: poor idle quality, especially when the engine is at operating temperature in "D" range. The incident usually will be described as a deterioration in the idle quality over time rather than a sudden change in idle quality.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Please perform the following procedure to resolve this incident:

1. Confirm that the engine adjustments (except idle adjustment screw initial set) are within specification and that there are no trouble codes stored. Do not adjust the idle adjustment screw initial set.

2. Perform a basic driveability check with CONSULT to verify proper ECCS functions, include in the check:

- Check MAFS connection (bring engine speed up to 2000 rpm with the engine at operating temperature, with CONSULT monitor the "Alpha" reading while wiggling the MAFS connection), if Alpha changes, repair the MAFS connector terminals.

- Confirm the engine oil level is at or below the "H" mark after 10 minute minimum drain back time.

3. If any out of specification conditions are found, please correct them and test drive the vehicle.

4. If the incident still occurs, replace the ECM module with a countermeasure unit.

5. Check the idle adjustment screw initial set, if out of specification adjust to specification.

6. Test drive the vehicle.
