Throttle Position Switch: Description and Operation

Throttle Position Sensor/Switch:

PURPOSE
To signal the ECCS Control Module when the throttle is in a closed position.

OPERATION
The closed position of the throttle valve is determined by the ECCS Control Module receiving the signal from the throttle position sensor. This system is called the "soft closed throttle position switch". It controls engine operation such as fuel cut. On the other hand, "hard closed throttle position switch", which is built in the throttle position sensor unit, is used for engine control when soft closed throttle position switch is malfunctioning.
