HOW TO ERASE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (WITHOUT CONSULT OR GST)

NOTES:
- If a DTC is displayed for both the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the A/T control unit, the code must be erased from each control module/unit separately, using different step procedures.

- If the diagnostic trouble code is not for A/T related items, skip step 2.

- Switching from Diagnostic Mode II to Mode I may only clear engine control/emission system related DTCs. Transmision control related DTCs may have to be cleared by manually initiating the transmission self diagnostic procedure. If the transmission fault is no longer present or has been repaired, the DTC for that fault will be erased while the transmission self-diagnostic sequence is running.

- If the battery terminal is disconnected, the diagnostic trouble code will be lost within 24 hours.

Procedure
1. If the ignition switch stays "ON" after repair work, be sure to turn ignition switch "OFF" once. Wait at least 5 seconds and then turn it "ON" again.
2. Clear A/T related DTCs by initiating the transmission self diagnostic procedure shown below.

A/T Self-Diagnostic Procedure (Without CONSULT or GST):

A/T SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE. (The engine warm-up step can be skipped when performing the diagnosis only to erase the DTCs.)

Changing Diagnostic Test Modes:

3. Change the diagnostic test mode from Mode II to Mode I by turning the mode selector on the ECM; this will clear emission system/engine control related DTCs.
