Knock Sensor: Description and Operation
Knock Sensor:
PURPOSE
To help prevent engine damage from pre-ignition, the knock sensor detects detonation and sends a voltage signal to the ECCS Control Module (ECM).
OPERATION
There are 2 knock sensors attached to the cylinder block. A knocking vibration from the cylinder block is applied as pressure to the piezoelectric element. This vibrational pressure is then converted into a voltage signal which is sent to the ECM.
