SYSTEM READINESS TEST (SRT) DRIVE PATTERNS
This amended version of ITB9B-011a contains updated ECM part numbers. Please discard all copies of ITB98-011a and ITB98-011.

APPLIED VEHICLE:
All 1996-97 Models As Required By State Emissions Inspections Regulations.

SERVICE INFORMATION
As part of an enhanced emissions test for Inspection & Maintenance (I/M), some States require the status of the System Readiness Test (SRT) be used to indicate whether the engine control module (ECM) has completed self diagnosis of major emissions systems and components. In those instances the State may require completion of the SRT before permitting the emissions inspection to proceed.

Therefore the State Emissions Inspection Station may advise an Infiniti customer to return to the dealership for service due to one or more SRT items indicating "incomplete". Use the information in this Bulletin to assist in setting the SRT to "complete."

The SRT status of a vehicle can be checked using CONSULT. In most cases the ECM will automatically complete its self diagnosis cycle during normal usage, and the SRT status will indicate "complete" for each applicable system. Once set as "complete" the SRT status remains "complete" until the Self Diagnosis memory is erased.

Occasionally, certain portions of the self diagnostic test may not be completed as a result of the customer's normal driving pattern and the SRT will indicate 'incomplete' for these items.

NOTE: The SRT will also indicate 'incomplete' if the self diagnosis memory is erased for any reason or if the ECM memory power supply is interrupted for several hours.

The UE991 CONSULT Program Card is used to access SRT status on all 1996 and 1997 Infiniti vehicles. This bulletin contains the service procedure and support information to read SRT status and to perform a comprehensive road test that enables the ECM to complete the SRT. A separate Drive Pattern sheet has been prepared for each '96 and '97 vehicle variation.

NOTE: It is critical to select the drive pattern that correctly corresponds with all variables for the vehicle being serviced (i.e., engine, ECM part number, model, model year, emissions certification, transmission, and powertrain).

NOTE: To ensure all ECM Self Test requirements are met, it is important to drive the entire drive pattern even if only one SRT item indicates 'incomplete'.
