Transaxle Assembly Removal and Installation

Fig. 6 Distance measurement between converter & housing:




1. Remove battery and bracket, then the air duct.
2. Disconnect transaxle solenoid and inhibitor switch harness connectors.
3. Disconnect throttle wire from engine compartment.
4. Raise and support vehicle, then drain ATF from transaxle.
5. Disconnect control cable from transaxle, then the oil cooler hoses.
6. Remove front exhaust tube, then the starter motor from the transaxle.
7. Remove rear plate cover.
8. Bolts attaching torque converter to driveplate.
9. Place a suitable jack under oil pan to support engine.
10. Support transaxle with a suitable jack, then remove mountings from transaxle.
11. Remove bolts attaching engine to transaxle, then lower transaxle while supporting with a jack.
12. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Check driveplate runout, maximum runout is 0.008 inch.
b. When attaching converter to transmission, measure distance "A", Fig. 6. Distance should be greater than 0.626 inch.
c. Tighten transaxle attaching bolts to specifications.
