Suspension Spring ( Coil / Leaf ): Service and Repair





REMOVAL





1. Remove shock absorber upper and lower fixing nuts (to hood-ledge).

NOTE: Do not remove piston rod lock nut on vehicle.





2. Set shock absorber in vise with attachment, then loosen piston rod lock nut.

NOTE: Do not remove piston rod lock nut.

3. Compress spring with a spring compressing tool so that the strut mounting insulator can be turned by hand.





4. Remove piston rod lock nut.

INSPECTION

- Check for cracks, deformation or other damage. Replace if necessary.





INSTALLATION

1. Position coil spring on strut as shown in the figure.





2. Install upper spring seat with its cutout facing the outer side of vehicle. Tighten the piston rod lock nut to 59 - 78 Nm (43 - 58 ft. lbs.)

3. Install Strut. Tighten the lower mounting nut to 140 - 159 Nm (103 - 117 ft. lbs.) and the upper mounting bracket nuts to 39 - 54 Nm (29 - 40 ft. lbs.).
