Engine Assembly - Removal and Installation
WARNING:
- SITUATE VEHICLE ON A FLAT AND SOLID SURFACE.
- PLACE CHOCKS AT FRONT AND BACK OF REAR WHEELS.
- DO NOT REMOVE ENGINE UNTIL EXHAUST SYSTEM HAS COMPLETELY COOLED OFF. OTHERWISE, YOU MAY BURN YOURSELF AND/OR FIRE MAY BREAK OUT IN FUEL LINE.
NOTE:
- Before disconnecting fuel hose, release fuel pressure from fuel line.
- Before separating engine and transmission, remove the crankshaft position sensor (OBD) from the assembly.
- Always take extra care not to damage edge of crankshaft position sensor (OBD) or ring gear teeth.
REPLACEMENT
1. Remove transmission.
2. Remove the engine under cover and hood.
3. Drain coolant from both cylinder block drain plug, and radiator drain cock.
4. Drain engine oil from drain plug of oil pan.
5. Remove vacuum hoses, fuel tubes, wires, harness and connectors.
6. Remove front exhaust tubes.
7. Remove radiator and shroud.
8. Remove drive belts.
9. Remove power steering oil pump from engine.
10. Install engine slingers to cylinder head.
NOTE: Be sure to hoist engine and transmission in a safe manner. For engines not equipped with engine slingers, attach proper slingers and bolts described in the parts catalog.
11. Set a suitable hoist on engine slinger.
12. Remove engine mounting bolts from both sides and then slowly raise engine.
WARNING: IN HOISTING THE ENGINE, ALWAYS USE ENGINE SLINGERS IN A SAFE MANNER.
CAUTION: When lifting the engine, be careful not to strike the surrounding parts, especially the accelerator wire casing, the brake lines and the brake master cylinder.
13. Remove engine as shown.
14. Reverse procedure to install.
