Wheel Hub: Testing and Inspection

The wheel hub bearing usually does not require maintenance. If any of the following symptoms are noted, replace wheel hub bearing assembly.
- Growling noise is emitted from wheel hub bearing during operation.
- Wheel hub bearing drags or turns roughly. This occurs when turning hub by hand after bearing lock nut is tightened to specified torque.

1. Check wheel hub and axle housing for cracks by using a magnetic exploration or dyeing test.
2. Check wheel bearing for damage, seizure, rust or rough operation.
3. Check rubber bushing for wear or other damage.
4. Check snap ring for wear or cracks.
5. Replace as necessary.
