Service Procedure
If the customer confirms that the described condition exists, perform this procedure.1. Remove the trunk opener fuse (15A) from the fuse box.
2. Remove the kick panel finisher.
3. Remove the front driver's door sill and finisher.
4. Remove the body harness from the body harness protector (see Figure 1).
5. Cut and open the body harness wrap to within six inches of the door hinge to sufficiently expose the harness wiring (see Figure 1).
CAUTION:
DO NOT cut the body harness itself. Only cut the harness wrap to expose the body harness wires.
6. Find and cut the body harness large purple/white wire (see Figure 1).
7. Connect each end of the cut large purple/white wires to the two purple/white wires on the new relay, using the two 3M Scotchlok (TM) 557s provided in the harness relay kit (see PARTS INFORMATION section for detail). See Figure 2.
8. Access the Transmission Control Module (TCM) by removing the appropriate center console finishers.
9. Unbolt and push the Body Control Module (BCM) up and aside to access the TCM.
10. Remove the TCM harness protector and locate the yellow/blue wire (Pin # 18 at Connector F103) on the harness (see Figure 3).
11. Remove the steering wheel lower cover.
12. Feed the yellow/blue wire from the new relay through the rear of the center console near the accelerator pedal and up into the console opening near the TCM (see Figure 4).
13. Cut the TCM harness wrap back slightly and follow the yellow/blue wire to the left in order to splice into the wire (see Figure 5). DO NOT CUT THE WIRE!
NOTE:
You will be re-installing the TCM harness protector. When splicing into the yellow/blue wire, allow space to re-install the TCM harness protector (see Figure 5).
14. Make a T junction with the yellow/blue wire on the relay and the TCM harness yellow/blue wire, using the 3M Scotchlok TM # 558 provided in the harness relay kit (see the PARTS INFORMATION section for detail) see Figure 5.
15. Re-install the TCM harness protector (see Figure 6).
16. Re-position the TCM.
17. Re-position the BCM and bolt it back into place.
18. Use tie wraps to attach the relay yellow/blue wire to the existing harness (which runs across the top of the steering column) to hold the relay wire in place above the foot well (see Figure 7).
19. Replace the steering wheel lower cover.
20. Attach the ground wire from the new relay to the bolt next to the hood release (see Figure 8).
21. Wrap the exposed wires of the body harness with electrical tape.
22. Replace the body harness into the body harness protector.
23. Wrap the relay wires with electrical tape where they connect to the relay (see Figure 9).
24. Slide the relay into the end of the body harness protector (see Figure 9).
25. Wrap the loose relay wires with electrical tape and tuck them behind the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) Control Unit (see Figure 8, above).
NOTE:
Do not leave the relay wires exposed where the kick panel finisher snaps into place (see Figure 8, above).
26. Replace the front driver's door sill and finisher and the kick panel finisher.
27. Replace the trunk opener fuse (15A).
28. Test by placing the vehicle in Drive, pressing the door switch, and ensuring the trunk will not open. Make sure the trunk opens when the vehicle is not in Drive.
29. Replace the center console finishers removed in step 8.
