SERVICE INFORMATION

If the trunk opens intermittently while driving a 1998 or 1999 I30, the solenoid may be receiving a signal to release the trunk.

NOTE:
When describing this incident, customers may say that a "noise" or "pop" was heard from the trunk area just before they noticed that the trunk had opened. This kind of noise may indicate trunk solenoid operation. The repair provided in this bulletin will only address an electrical issue, not a mechanical one.

If this condition should occur, use the Service Procedure below to install a trunk switch bypass relay.

NOTE:
Prior to beginning repair, ensure that the customer understands that after the repair, they will be unable to open the trunk with the door mounted trunk switch or remote key fob when the transmission selector is in "Drive."
