1999 I30 NO START AND SECURITY LAMP ON
WITH NATS DTC "ID DISCORD, IMM-ECM"

SERVICE INFORMATION

If a 1999 I30 will not start and the Security lamp is on solid with the ignition key turned to "ON", use CONSULT or CONSULT-II with the NATS card to verify NATS DTC "ID DISCORD, IMM-ECM" is stored. If this DTC appears, use the Service Procedure in this bulletin to diagnose and repair the vehicle.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

NOTE:
This procedure is described using CONSULT-II. CONSULT may also be used to perform the diagnostic procedures outlined below. However, the screens and steps will differ slightly from those shown here.





1. Install the NATS card (purple) into slot I of CONSULT-II (see Figure 1).





2. Connect CONSULT-II to the vehicle (see Figure 2).





3. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" (do not start the engine). CONSULT-II will then turn on automatically (see Figure 3). Now touch "START".





4. Select "NATS V2.0" (see Figure 4).





5. Select "SELF DIAGNOSIS" (see Figure 5).





6. Confirm Self Diagnosis Result "ID DISCORD, IMM-ECM" displayed on the CONSULT-II screen (see Figure 6).

7. Press "COPY" to print the Self-Diagnosis screen (see Figure 6). Attach this printout to the repair order.

Then press "BACK" (see Figure 6) to return to the CONSULT-II main menu.





8. Turn the vehicle's ignition switch "OFF" and CONSULT-II "OFF" (see Figure 7).





9. Remove the NATS (purple) card from CONSULT-II and install the Diagnostics (blue) card (see Figure 8).





10. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" (do not start the engine). CONSULT-II will then turn on automatically (see Figure 9). Now touch "START".





11. Select "ENGINE" (see Figure 10).





12. Select "ECM PART NUMBER" (see Figure 11).





13. Press "COPY" to print the ECM PART NUMBER screen (see Figure 12). Attach this printout to the repair order. Then press "BACK" to return to the CONSULT-II main menu.

14. Turn the vehicle's ignition switch "OFF" and CONSULT-II "OFF".

15. Compare the vehicle's ECM PART NUMBER as printed from CONSULT-II in step 13 to the ECM # in the chart below.





- if the vehicle's ECM # is in the ORIGINAL ECM # column, replace the ECM with the applicable UPDATED PART # from the Parts Information section of this bulletin, then proceed to step 16.

- If the vehicle's ECM # is in the UPDATED ECM # column, replace the NATS Immobilizer Control Unit (IMMU) with the one from the Parts Information section of this bulletin, then proceed to step 16.

16. Perform NATS C/U Initialization and Key Registration. Click here or refer to Attachment I to this bulletin for instructions on that procedure.

Match the Original Part # as printed from CONSULT-II in step 13 from the vehicle's ECM to select the replacement, Updated Part #.
