Service Procedure
Navigation Operating System Software Upgrade Installation ProcedureIMPORTANT NOTES:
^ Handle the Program CD-ROM by the edges only. Protect the surface from dirt, grease and scratches as this type of foreign material can prevent the navigation system from accessing the data on the CD-ROM.
^ After new software is loaded, the distance on the navigation system map may not match the actual miles driven. To correct this condition, advise the customer to drive the vehicle, with all car phones, cell phones, beepers, etc. turned off, at a speed greater than 19 MPH (30 km/h) for at least 20 to 30 minutes. This will automatically re-calibrate the navigation system.
1. Confirm which navigation system software version the vehicle is equipped with using the "Check the Map CD-ROM Version" procedure contained on the following 2001 model year Service Manual pages: EL-490 for I30, EL-560 for Q45 and EL-405 for QX4.
A. If the vehicle is already equipped with the latest software upgrade (i.e SD3US028/ILK32031/ILK22031), stop the process.
B. If the vehicle is not equipped with the latest software upgrade (i.e., SD3US028/ILk32031/ILK22031), install the latest software version by proceeding with step 2 below.
2. Obtain the new 0/S programming CD-ROM from the Service Manager.
3. Park the vehicle on a level surface and firmly apply the parking brake.
4. Start the engine and let it run.
5. Insert the Program CD-ROM into the navigation system as follows:
In-Dash (Touch Screen) Type Navigation System (Q45 and QX4)
A. Press the "OPEN" button on the navigation system, then gently move the display downward to the e locked position (see Figure 2).
B. Remove the customer's map disc from the navigation system. Store the disc carefully.
C. Insert the Program CD-ROM (label-side up) into the CD slot (see Figure 3).
D. Gently move the display upward to close it.
Pop-Up Type Navigation System (I30)
A. Press the "ON/OFF" button on the navigation system (see Figure 4). The display will open (pop-up) automatically.
CAUTION:
Do not move (assist) the display to the open or closed position as it will automatically open/close by itself. Moving (assisting) the display can damage the internal opening/closing mechanism.
B. Remove the customer's map disc from the navigation system. Store the disc carefully.
C. Insert the Program CD-ROM (label-side up) into the CD slot (see Figure 5).
6. Select the Program CD-ROM version as follows:
In-Dash (Touch Screen) Type Navigation System (Q45 and QX4)
Use the up/down arrow to choose the latest program CD-ROM version number (ILK32031/ILK22031), then touch this number (on the screen) to select it. See Figure 6.
NOTE:
^ Load ILK22031 with Infiniti MES (cannot play CDs)
^ Load ILK32031 without Infiniti MES (will play CDs in Navigation Unit)
NOTE:
To determine it the navigation system can or cannot play music CDs, look at the Compact Disc insignia at the upper right corner of the display. If the words "Digital Audio" are under the Compact Disc insignia, the navigation unit can play music CDs. If the words "Digital Audio" are not present, the navigation unit cannot play music CDs.
Pop-Up Type Navigation System (I30)
Use the joy-stick to highlight the latest program CD-ROM version number (SD3U5028), then relax the joy-stick to its natural position, and push on it to select the program number (see Figure 7).
7. Select the "Yes" button on the "Self Diagnosis" screen to begin program loading (see Figure 8).
NOTE:
Do not turn the power off or remove the CD-ROM during loading, as this will interrupt the loading process.
8. The loading process is complete when all the red lights (between "Start" and "End") are illuminated (see Figure 9) and when a "double-beep" sound is heard. This usually takes about three minutes.
9. After the "double beep" sound is heard, remove the CD-ROM from the navigation system CD slot, then insert the NEW mapping disc. Place the programming CD-ROM in its storage case.
NOTE:
After you insert the Mapping disc, the screen will show a specific street intersection. This street intersection is pre-determined by the Mapping disc and is used together with the satellite information to make corrections and determine your location. The table provides the pre-determined street intersection for each Map Coverage Area (MCA) for new "X5.1" mapping CDs.
10. Drive the vehicle for at least 20 to 30 minutes. This will allow GPS initialization.
NOTE:
GPS initialization is complete when the satellite icon, at the top left corner of the screen, turns green.
11. Leave the Mapping disc in the CD-ROM slot when you've completed the loading process.
12. Return the new programming CD-ROM to the Service Manager.
NOTE:
In some cases, the customer may provide your dealership (i.e., the Service Manager) with the new programming CD-ROM. In this case make sure the programming CD-ROM is returned to the customer.
