Windshield Molding - Separation

1999-01 Q45; WINDSHIELD MOLDING SEPARATION

1999-01 Q45 (FY33)

SERVICE INFORMATION

If the windshield molding(s) on a 1999-01 Q45 separates from the body at the top center area of the windshield, use this Service Procedure to resolve the incident, should it occur.

NOTE:
This is the ONLY authorized repair procedure for this incident. A claim to Infiniti for the repair of this incident may be denied if the repair is not performed exactly as outlined in this bulletin.

SERVICE PROCEDURE








1. Remove the top center molding clip (see Figure 1) and the affected windshield molding(s) [See Figure 2].

2. Remove the old urethane adhesive:

^ Around the windshield glass edge, where the windshield molding(s) was removed (see Figure 2a)

^ From the vehicle body after the fasteners are removed

CAUTION:
Use a plastic-edged tool when removing the adhesive to avoid chipping/damaging the windshield edge and body paint. If the body paint is damaged, repair as necessary to avoid rust/corrosion.

3. Inspect and replace any molding fasteners that are damaged (see Figure 2a).

4. After all urethane adhesive is removed and any fasteners are replaced, apply 3M(TM) Primer/Degreaser PN 08683 (or equivalent) to the following areas:

^ Around the entire windshield glass edge as shown in Figure 2b.

^ To the last one inch of the left and/or right windshield molding(s) at the top, center location (see Figure 2b).

NOTE:
Allow the Primer/Degreaser to dry for 1 to 2 minutes before performing step 5 below.

5. Apply 3M(TM) Urethane Adhesive PN 08609 (or equivalent) to the following areas:

^ Around the entire windshield edge where the old adhesive was removed (see Figure 2c).

^ To the last one inch of the left and/or right windshield molding(s) at the top, center location (see Figure 2c).

6. Install the windshield molding(s), making sure it is fully seated and there are no gaps in the corners.

7. Re-install the top, center molding joint as follows:





A. Apply primer/degreaser to the underside of the top rubber portion of the joint (see Figure 3).

B. Apply adhesive to the underside of the top rubber portion of the joint (see Figure 3).

C. Install the joint, making sure it is fully seated.

8. Remove/clean all excess adhesive from the glass body, and molding(s).
