Accelerator Pedal Replacement

Install the new throttle pedal assembly (see Figure 1) using the procedures listed below.

NOTE:
The accelerator wire must be adjusted whenever any component of the accelerator pedal system is changed.

Accelerator Pedal Removal

1. Remove the engine cover.

2. Loosen the lock nut and remove the accelerator wire from the throttle drum (see Figure 2 shown).

3. Remove the accelerator wire from the accelerator pedal (see Figure 2).

4. Remove the accelerator pedal bracket nuts, then remove the accelerator pedal and bracket assembly (see Figure 2).

Accelerator Pedal Installation

Install in reverse order of the removal procedures, paying close attention to the following cautions:

CAUTION:
^ Do not cut, twist or kink the accelerator wire.

^ Do not apply lubricant to the inside of the accelerator wire.

^ Confirm the accelerator pedal is free from contact with other parts, and operates (releases) smoothly.

NOTE:
^ For Automatic Speed Control Device (ASCD) wire adjustment, refer to page ACS-29, "ASCD Wire Adjustment" in the applicable 2002 Q45 Service Manual.

^ Do not install the engine cover yet.

Adjusting Accelerator Wire

1. With the accelerator wire installed on the throttle drum, tighten the accelerator Adjusting nut (see Figure 2) until the throttle drum starts to move.

2. From that position, turn back the Adjusting nut 1.5 to 2 turns.

3. Tighten the Lock nut to the specified torque while holding the Adjusting nut.

Inspection after Installation

Confirm the throttle drum opens fully when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed to the floor, and it operates smoothly throughout the full range of its movement.

^ Confirm the throttle drum returns to the idle position when the pedal is released.

^ Confirm the ASCD wire is not pulling the throttle drum. (For ASCD wire adjustment, refer to page ACS-29, "ASCD Wire Adjustment" in the applicable 2002 Q45 Service Manual.)

Engine Cover Installation

1. Reinstall the engine cover.

2. When Accelerator Pedal Replacement is done, go to the Vehicle Update flowchart box titled: "Determine the vehicle's TCM part number (P/N)".
