Removal and Installation

REMOVAL

CAUTION:
When removing the A/T assembly from engine, first remove the crankshaft position sensor (POS) from the A/T assembly.
Be careful not to damage sensor edge.

1. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
2. Remove the engine cover and battery.
3. Remove the exhaust front tube and the heat insulator.
4. Remove the manual linkage from the transmission.
5. Disconnect A/T solenoid valve harness connectors.
6. Remove the tightening bolt for A/T fluid level gauge.
7. Remove the oil cooler tube and A/T oil charging pipe.
8. Support A/T assembly with a jack.

CAUTION: When setting the transmission jack, be careful not to allow it to collide against the drain plug.

9. Remove the dust cover from the converter housing part.
10. Turn the crankshaft, and remove the four tightening bolts for the drive plate and the torque converter.

CAUTION: When turning the crankshaft, turn it clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine.

11. Remove the engine rear member.
12. Disconnect the oil charging pipe.
13. Remove the mounting bolts for the engine and the transmission.

CAUTION: For the RE5R05A type transmission, do not perform any work that uses the companion flange section located at the rear part of the transmission as a point of support.

14. Remove the transmission from the vehicle.

INSPECTION
Installation and Inspection of Torque Converter

- After inserting a torque converter to a transmission, be sure to check dimension A to ensure it is within the reference value limit.
Dimension A :22.0 mm (0.87 inch) or more

INSTALLATION
Install the removed parts in the reverse order of the removal, while paying attention to the following work.

- When installing transmission to the engine, attach the mounting bolts in accordance with the following standard.

- Align the positions of tightening bolts for drive plate with those of the torque converter, and temporarily tighten the bolts. Then, tighten the bolts with the specified torque.
: 44 - 58 Nm (4.4 - 6.0kgf-cm, 33 - 43 ft. lbs.)

CAUTION:
- When turning the crankshaft, turn it clockwise as viewed from the front of the engine.
- Before tightening the tightening bolts for the torque converter after fixing the crank pulley bolts, be sure to confirm the tightening torque of the crank pulley mounting bolts.

- Install crankshaft position sensor (POS).
- Install the removed A/T fluid level gauge in the oil changing pipe.
: 4.4- 5.8 Nm (0.45- 0.59 kgf-cm, 39.1 - 51.2 inch lbs.)
- After completing installation, check oil leakage, oil level, and the positions of A/T.
- Refer to "Checking A/T Fluid",
