DTC P1704 TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (EEPROM)Description
The TCM consists of a microcomputer and connectors for signal input and output and for power supply. The TCM controls the A/T.
On Board Diagnosis Logic
^ This is not an OBD-II self-diagnostic item.
^ Diagnostic trouble code "TCM EEPROM" with CONSULT-II is detected when TCM memory EEPROM is malfunctioning.
Possible Cause

DTC Confirmation Procedure
NOTE: If "DTC Confirmation Procedure" has been previously conducted, always turn ignition switch "OFF" and wait at least 10 seconds before conducting the next test.
After the repair, perform the following procedure to confirm the malfunction is eliminated.
WITH CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch ON. (Do not start engine.)
2. Select "DATA MONITOR" mode for A/T with CONSULT-II.
3. Start engine.
4. Run engine for at least 2 consecutive seconds at idle speed.
5. If DTC is detected, go to "Diagnostic Procedure".
Diagnostic Procedure
1. CHECK DTC
With CONSULT-II
1. Connect CONSULT-II to data link connector.
2. Turn ignition switch ON. Confirm that CONSULT-II turn ON.
3. Move select lever in "R" position.
4. Touch "START" on CONSULT-II.
5. Select "SELF-DIAG RESULTS" mode for "A/T" with CONSULT-II.
6. Fully press the accelerator pedal (8/8 throttle), and hold it in the fully open position. (This will set the closed throttle position signal to OFF.)
7. Touch "ERASE" on CONSULT-II, and then touch "YES".
8. Wait 3 seconds and then release the accelerator pedal.
9. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds.
10. Perform "DTC Confirmation Procedure".
Is the "TCM EEPROM" displayed again?
Yes >> Replace TCM.
No >> INSPECTION END
