2003-2005 G35; STEERING WHEEL AUDIO AND CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH REPLACEMENT

APPLIED VEHICLES:

2003 - 2005 G35 (V35 and CV35)

IF YOU CONFIRM

The audio or cruise control switch in the steering wheel needs to be replaced for any reason

ACTION

^ Replace only the switch(es) using the Service Procedure in this bulletin.

^ Do Not replace the complete steering wheel for audio or cruise control switch incidents if they should occur. The switches are now available as separate parts.

Submit a Primary Failed Part (PP) line claim using the claims coding shown.

IMPORTANT:
The purpose of "ACTION" (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire Service Procedure as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE





1. Write down radio pre-sets.

2. Turn the ignition OFF.

3. Disconnect the battery cables (negative cable first) and Wait for at least 3 minutes.

4. Remove the air bag module from the steering wheel.

^ Refer to section RS in the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for air bag module removal information. Make sure to follow all WARNINGS and CAUTIONS.

^ DO NOT drop, tilt or bump the air bag module. Always handle it with care.

5. Remove the steering wheel.

^ Refer to section PS in the ESM for steering wheel removal information.

^ Make sure to mark the steering wheel and steering shaft so you can put the steering wheel back on in the same position.

6. Place the steering wheel on a clean soft working surface.





7. Apply a piece of tape as shown in Figure 1 to hold the spiral cable in place.





8. Remove the two Torx bolts shown in Figure 2.





9. Remove the Horn Plate from the steering wheel.





10. For 2005 vehicles equipped with a mass damper: Remove the 2 screws shown in Figure 4 and remove the mass damper.





11. Remove the horn plate springs.





12. Remove the 3 screws shown in Figure 6.





13. Remove the trim cover from the steering wheel and discard it.

^ You will install a new one during reassembly.

^ New covers are listed in the parts information.





14. From the back-side of the steering wheel remove the 4 screws shown in Figure 8.





15. Remove the switch(es) from the steering wheel.

16. Install the new switch(es) on the steering wheel.

17. Re-assemble the steering wheel in reverse order.

During re-assembly:

^ Install a new trim cover (see Figure 7).





^ Make sure the harness for the switch(es) is routed as shown in Figure 10.

18. Re-install the steering wheel and air bag on the vehicle in reverse order.

19. Reconnect the battery cables (positive cable first).

20. Reset the radio presets.
