Service Procedure

SERVICE PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT:

Before starting, make sure:

^ ASIST on the CONSULT PC has been freshly synchronized (updated).
^ All C-III plus software updates (if any) have been installed.

NOTE:
The CONSULT PC automatically gets applicable ECM reprogramming data during ASIST synchronization.

^ A screen print for Warranty documentation can be done from C-III plus during this process while still cable-connected to the vehicle.

^ No DTCs stored.

> Use C-III plus to perform Self Diagnosis for all systems.

> If there are any DTCs; diagnose, perform repairs, and erase DTCs before continuing.

1. Connect the Vehicle Interface (VI) to the vehicle.

^ Make sure to use the VI for C-III plus (plus VI).

CAUTION

2. Connect the AC Adapter to the CONSULT PC.

CAUTION

3. Have the GR8 Multitasking Battery Diagnostic Station (battery tester/charger) available and ready to use.

^ Do not connect the battery tester/charger at this time. If needed, it will be connected later in this procedure.

4. Turn ON the CONSULT PC, open ASIST, and then open C-III plus.

5. Turn the ignition ON.

6. Wait for the VI to be recognized / connected.

^ Serial number will display when VI is recognized / connected.

7. Select Re/programming, Configuration.

8. Use arrows (if needed) to view and read all precautions.

9. Check the box confirming the precautions have been read.

10. Select Next.

NOTE:
If the screen in Figure 4 does not display, skip to step 14 below.

11. Select Infiniti.

12. Select M35h and 2012.

13. Select Select.

14. Make sure VIN or Chassis # matches the vehicles VIN.

15. If the correct VIN is displayed, select Confirm.

16. Select Confirm.

17. Select ENGINE.

18. Select Reprogramming.

19. Find the ECM Part Number (see Figure 9) and write it on the repair order.

NOTE:
This is the current ECM Part Number (P/N).

20. Compare the P/N you wrote down to the numbers in the Current ECM P/N column in Table A above.

^ If there is a match. Continue with the reprogramming procedure.

^ If there is not a match, reprogramming is not needed. Close C-III plus and disconnect from the vehicle.

ECM REPROGRAMMING:

NOTE:
Continue with this Service Procedure (ECM Reprogramming) only if a P/N match was found in Table A under "Service Procedure".

21. Take the vehicle for a 10 minute drive in order to meet the following conditions:

^ Li-ion battery charging status: 50% or more

^ Engine coolant temperature: 70 - 100°C (158 - 212°F)

^ 12V battery voltage: More than 12.9 V (At idle)

^ Transmission: Warmed-up

NOTE:
After reprogramming is complete you will be required to perform Idle Air Volume Learn (IAVL) before CONSULT will give the final reprogramming confirmation report. The above conditions are required for the IAVL to complete.

22. Connect and set up the GR8 Multitasking Battery Diagnostic Station (battery tester/charger) for the 12V battery.

^ For convenience, the GR-8 can be connected to the "jump-start" points under the hood.

^ Set unit in test mode. (Battery charging begins when Test Mode and Advance Test Mode are complete.)

^ Select LIMIT VOLTAGE, and set MIN VOLTAGE to 12.40 volts.

NOTE:
For additional battery charger/tester setup information refer to GR8 Multitasking Battery Diagnostic Station Setup.

CAUTION

23. Make sure the ignition is set to ON engine OFF (not ready).

^ Engine must not start or run during ECM reprogramming.

^ Make sure the dash warning lights are ON and the "ready to drive" indicator light is OFF (not illuminated).

24. IMPORTANT: Turn OFF all vehicle electrical loads such as exterior lights, interior lights, HVAC, blower, rear defogger, audio, NAVI, seat heater, steering wheel heater, etc.

25. Observe the following cautions:

CAUTION

26. Select Save.

27. Select Next.

28. Use arrows (if needed) to view and read all precautions.

29. Check the box confirming the precautions have been read.

30. Select Next.

31. Read the Current Part Number and Part Number After Reprogramming. They should be different.

32. Select Next.

NOTE:
^ In some cases, more than one new part number for reprogramming is available:

> If this is the case, the screen in Figure 15 displays.

> Select and use the reprogramming option that does not have the message "Caution! Use ONLY with ITBXX-XXX".

^ If you get this screen and it is blank (no reprogramming listed), it means there is no reprogramming available for this vehicle:

> This reprogramming is not needed or it has already been done. Close C-III plus and disconnect from the vehicle.

33. Make sure OK is highlighted green (battery voltage must be between 12.0 V and 15.5 V).

34. Select Next.

IMPORTANT:
Battery voltage must stay between 12.0 and 15.5 during reprogramming or ECM reprogramming may be interrupted and ECM may be damaged.

NOTE:
In the next step, the reprogramming process will begin when Start is selected.

35. Select Start.

36. Wait for both progress bars to complete.

37. When the screen in Figure 19 appears the reprogramming is complete.
NOTE:
If the screen in Figure 19 does not display (reprogramming does not complete), refer to the information below.

38. Disconnect the GR8 from the vehicle as follows:

a. Depress STOP.
b. Press the power switch to OFF.
c. Unplug the battery tester charger from the AC voltage supply.
d. Disconnect cables from the vehicle.

39. Select Next.

NOTE:
^ In the next steps (step 40), you will perform Throttle Valve Closed Position, Idle Air Volume Learn, Accelerator Closed Position, and DTC erase.

^ These operations are required before C-III plus will provide the final reprogramming confirmation report.

If reprogramming does not complete and the "!?" symbol displays as shown in Figure 20:

^ Check battery voltage (12.0 - 15.5V).

^ Make sure ignition is ON, Ready Mode is OFF.

^ External Bluetooth devices are OFF.

^ All electrical loads are OFF.

^ Select Retry and follow the on-screen instructions.

NOTE:
