Engine: Service and Repair
1. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.2. Relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under Precautions.
3. Mark hood hinge to hood locations for installation reference, then remove hood.
4. Disconnect battery cables and remove battery.
5. Remove five engine undercover retaining bolts, then the engine undercover.
6. Drain radiator coolant, then disconnect radiator upper and lower hose from radiator.
7. Remove engine drive belts, then the engine cooling fan and radiator together as an assembly.
8. Remove A/C compressor with bracket and hoses.
9. Remove power steering pump with bracket and hose.
10. Disconnect spark plug wires from spark plugs, then remove distributor cap and wires as an assembly.
11. Remove ignition coil with bracket.
12. Working from inside passenger compartment, remove center console and front console.
13. Remove gear shift lever.
14. Disconnect speedometer cable and electrical connectors from transmission.
15. Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector.
16. Disconnect front exhaust pipe from manifold and catalytic converter.
17. Remove second propeller shaft flange yoke bolt at differential side.
18. On models with automatic transmission, remove 1st propeller shaft flange yoke bolt at transmission side.
19. Remove starter motor.
20. Support engine with engine hoist, or equivalent, then support transmission with a suitable transmission jack.
21. Remove rear engine mounting nuts from transmission mounting member.
22. Remove rear engine mount bolts, then the mounting from side members.
23. Remove catalytic converter mounting bracket.
24. Remove parking brake cable from cable bracket.
25. Remove transmission with transfer case, if equipped.
26. Carefully remove engine from vehicle.
27. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten to specifications.
