DIAGNOSTIC CHART

Code 23 Diagnostic Chart:

NOTE: Check carburetor connections for mixture control solenoid. Ensure tight connections, clear code and recheck. If code 23 does not reappear, circuit is okay.

TEST DESCRIPTION

These steps correspond to the numbered steps on the diagnostic chart:

1. Checks for a complete circuit from the battery to the M/C solenoid dwell lead.

2. Checks for voltage on the pink/black ignition source wire.

2A. Checks for an open in the solenoid-to-ECM circuit. A normal circuit reads battery voltage at ECM terminal "14."

3. This step determines whether the fault is in the M/C solenoid, a grounded circuit to the ECM or the ECM itself. Do not use a voltmeter for this test.

3A. Check M/C solenoid resistance. A good unit will have over 10 ohms resistance. A defective solenoid with less than 10 ohms resistance could cause ECM failure.

4. Checks for grounded wire to ECM terminal "21." If grounded, the test light will remain "ON."
