SERVICE INFORMATION

Optional rear shoulder belts are available for affected vehicles. This Service Bulletin contains rear shoulder belt installation procedures for Section 11 of the following Workshop Manuals:

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Impulse (JR) Rear Shoulder Belt Installation

NOTE

Perform the following steps to both left and right sides.

1. Remove rear quarter glass as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual.

2. Remove weatherstrip from rear side of window opening and from sides of hatch opening.

3. Remove rear parcel trim pad.

4. Disconnect luggage room lamp (right side only).
5. Remove rear shelf trim cover as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual.

6. Remove black rear quarter cover (left side only).

7. Remove rear pillar trim cover

8. Drill a 1/8 inch (22 mm) hole in the rear pillar trim cover as follows:

a. Using a 7/8 inch hole saw, drill hole about 1/8 inch (3 mm) above existing circle mark inside trim cover (There is a pin hole in the center of the circle on the outside surface of the cover.) See Figure 1.

b. Clean out any excess loose plastic material from edges of hole.

9. Reinstall rear pillar trim cover as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual. Ensure that hole is aligned with existing hole (the one with a threaded insert) in rear pillar.

10. Install shoulder belt to rear pillar, tightening bolt only finger-tight at this time.

NOTE

Assistance from a second person may be required to hold the trim cover tightly to the pillar while installing the bolt.

Position belt angle so that it may be pulled straight over passenger's shoulder without bunching up.

11. Reinstall black rear quarter cover (left side only).

12. Apply sealer to rear quarter window weatherstrip and to hatch weatherstrip. Reinstall both weatherstrips.
13. Reconnect luggage room lamp (right side only).

14. Reinstall rear shelf trim cover as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual, Torque bolts to 6 ft./lbs.

15. Reinstall rear parcel trim pad.

16. Remove rear seat cushion.

17. Replace existing rear seat belt retractor assembly with new retractor assembly

18. Replace existing rear seat belt latch with new latch.
19. Torque retractor and latch bolts to 29 ft./lbs.

20. Torque shoulder belt bolt to 29 ft./lbs. and install plastic cover over bolt.

21. Reinstall rear seat cushion as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual. Ensure that the retractors and latches are pulled up through the cushions.

22. Reinstall rear quarter glass as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual.

I-Mark (JT) Rear Shoulder Belt Installation

NOTE

Perform the following steps to both left and right sides.

1. Remove rear seat cushion and rear pillar trim cover

2. Drill a 7/8 inch (22 mm) hole in the cover as follows:

a. Using a 7/8 inch hole saw, drill hole at existing circle mark inside cover. (There is a pin hole in the center of the circle on the outside surface of the coven) See Figure 2.

b. Clean out any excess loose plastic material from edges of hole.

3. Reinstall cover as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual. Ensure that hole is aligned with existing hole (the one with a threaded insert) in rear pillar.
4. Install shoulder belt to rear pillar, tightening bolt only finger-tight at this time.

NOTE

Assistance from a second person may be required to hold the trim cover tightly to the pillar while installing the bolt.

5. Replace existing rear seat belt retractor assembly with new retractor assembly

6. Replace existing rear seat belt latch with new latch.

7. Torque retractor and latch bolts to 29 ft./lbs.

8. Torque shoulder belt bolt to 29 ft./lbs. and install plastic cover over bolt.

9. Reinstall rear seat cushions as outlined in the appropriate Workshop Manual. Ensure that the retractors and latches are pulled up through the cushions.

Rear Shoulder Belt Operation (JR and JT)

1. Extend shoulder belt and insert shoulder belt clip through opening in lower part of retractor clip. Then pull shoulder belt clip to one side, to lock pin into place. See Figure 3.
2. Extend lap belt webbing across the lap.

3. Push retractor clip into the latch until it clicks.

4. Position lap belt across the lap as low on the hips as possible and adjust to a snug fit.
