Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair
The Diagnostic Energy Reserve Module (DERM) which provides reserve energy to the deployment loop and diagnostic monitoring of all system components, can maintain sufficient voltage to cause a deployment for up to 10 minutes after the ignition switch is turned off and the battery is disconnected.To disarm airbag system, proceed as follows:
1. Turn ignition switch to ``Off.''
2. Remove SIR fuses C21, C22 and C23.
3. Disconnect the orange 3-way connector at the base of the steering column.
When all service work is completed, the following procedure is to be followed:
1. Reconnect the orange 3-way connector at the base of steering column.
2. Install SIR fuses C21, C22 and C23.
3. Turn ignition switch to ``On'' position and ensure the ``INFLatable RESTraint'' lamp flashes 7 to 9 times and then goes out.
