Fuel Pump: Testing and Inspection

CAUTION: Observe all fire hazard precautions detailed in FUEL SYSTEMS / SERVICE PRECAUTIONS, when working on open fuel systems.
Fuel system MUST be depressurized before disconnecting any fuelling component.
Do NOT pinch any braided fuel lines.

Fuel Pump:

Fuel Pump:

1. Fit fuel pressure gauge.
2. Start engine and note fuel pressure. Should be:

35.5 to 38.8 psi

If pressure is low, gradually and momentarily pinch fuel return line. Pressure should increase to over 90 psi as line is pinched off. If yes, see Fuel Pressure Regulator. If no, replace pump. Do not completely close off fuel line.

NOTE: There have been isolated incidents of fuel pump running but not generating fuel pressure. This was caused by pump rotor coming loose from pump motor armature. If pump runs and there is no fuel pressure, replace pump.
