Rear Blanking Plate



Cylinder Head Rear Blanking Plate Gasket, Renew

- Disconnect the battery.

- Drain the cooling system (radiator only).

- Cut and remove the engine harness to bulkhead tiestraps and the injector rail harness rear tiestrap.

- Remove the screws securing the engine harness to bulkhead support bracket. Remove the bracket and retain the spacers.

- Carefully reposition and secure the harness for access to the blanking plate.




- Raise the rear of the transmission unit to give greater access to the blanking plate (2 Fig. 1), using a jack and a suitable piece of wood positioned below the rear of the transmission unit.

WARNING: DO NOT JACK AGAINST THE TRANSMISSION UNIT OIL PAN.

- Remove the bolts (1 Fig. 1) securing the rear blanking plate to the cylinder head; remove the plate and clean the cylinder head face.

- Apply sealant to a new blanking plate; carefully fit and align the plate. See Service Materials under Engine, Specifications, Fluid Types.

CAUTION: Extreme care must he taken to ensure that the sealant is not wiped off during alignment of the plate.

- Fit and tighten the bolts securing the blanking plate.

- Lower the rear of the transmission unit on the jack.

- Fit the bulkhead support bracket with the spacers and securing screws.

- Reposition the engine harness and secure to the bulkhead support bracket with tiestraps.

- Reposition the injector rail harness and secure with a tiestrap.

- Fill the system with coolant.

- Connect the battery.
