Radiator: Service and Repair
RADIATOR ASSEMBLY, RENEW
- Disconnect the battery.
- Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on two axle stands.
- Drain the coolant from the radiator.
- Disconnect the header tank hose (1 Fig. 1) from the radiator.
- Remove the transmission cooler pipe securing clip (2 Fig. 1).
- Release the lower transmission cooler pipe (3 Fig. 1) securing nut, disconnect the pipe from the radiator and remove the `O' ring seal. Repeat for the upper transmission cooler pipe (4 Fig. 1).
- Fit plugs to the transmission cooler pipes and radiator.
- Disconnect the cooling fan temperature switch connector (5 Fig. 1).
- Working from below: disconnect the bottom hose (6 Fig. 1) from the radiator.
- Working from above: disconnect the top hose (7 Fig. 1) from the radiator.
- Release the upper steering cooler pipe (8 Fig. 1) securing nut, disconnect the pipe from the radiator and remove the `O' ring seal. Repeat for the lower steering cooler pipe (9 Fig. 1).
- Fit plugs to the steering cooler pipes and radiator.
- Remove the top panel securing bolts (10 Fig. 1) and reposition the panel for access.
- Disconnect the hood switch harness connector.
- Remove the bolts securing the cooling fan/cowl assembly to the radiator. Reposition the fan assembly for access.
- Remove the radiator from the vehicle. Remove the radiator mounting bushes, the cooling fan temperature switch and the cooling fan / cowl assembly lower mounting rubber seals.
- Fit the radiator mounting bushes, the cooling fan temperature switch and the cooling fan / cowl assembly lower mounting rubber seals to a new radiator.
- Place the radiator in position and fit the cooling fan / cowl assembly. Fit and tighten the bolts securing the cooling fan / cowl assembly to the radiator.
- Connect the cooling fan temperature switch connector.
- Remove the plugs from the transmission cooler pipes and radiator.
- Fit a new `O' ring seal to the upper transmission cooler pipe and lubricate the seal. Connect the pipe to the radiator and tighten the securing nut. Repeat for the lower transmission cooler pipe.
- Fit the clip securing the transmission cooler pipes.
- Connect the header tank hose to the radiator and tighten the securing clamp.
- Remove the plugs from the steering cooler pipes and radiator.
- Fit a new `O' ring seal to the lower steering cooler pipe and lubricate the seal. Connect the pipe to the radiator and tighten the securing nut. Repeat for the upper steering cooler pipe.
- Connect the top hose to the radiator and tighten the securing clamp.
- Fit the radiator top panel; fit and tighten the panel securing bolts.
- Working from below: connect the bottom hose to the radiator and tighten the securing clamp.
- Lower the vehicle from the axle stands.
- Connect the battery.
- Fill the radiator with coolant.
- Check and top-up the power assisted steering reservoir.
- Check and top-up the transmission fluid.
