Installation of Child Seat Tether Mounting Eyes - Dimensions - USA Vehicles
ISSUE:
Threaded inserts are present under the rear shelf area of all 1995-97 MY Sedan Range vehicles. This bulletin outlines a procedure for locating the insert on USA market vehicles to permit installation of the child tether restraint eyelet kit at customer expense.

The rear shelf is covered by a soft padded insert that includes the grille for the subwoofer. On these vehicles, feel through the padded insert until the existing openings in the rear shelf are located (refer to illustration 1 or 2). Verify the location(s) that the customer desires for the tether mounting(s). Cut the soft pad with a sharp knife such as an Xacto. Install the tether eye kit in the desired positions.
VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH STANDARD SOUND SYSTEM
No openings are present in the rear shelf of these vehicles. As a result the shelf should be removed to cut holes in the desired locations. For instructions on removing the rear seat squab on 1997 MY refer to technical bulletin 13-29. For 1995-96 MY refer to JTIS section 313-13 Body Components andTrim, Removal & Installation. 13.8 Seat & Seat belts, 13.8.7 Rear Seat Squab, Renew SRO 76.70.38. To determine where to cut the openings, measure according to the dimensions shown in Illustration 1 for 1997 MY vehicles, or Illustration 2 for 1995-96 MY vehicles. (The passenger side dimensions are valid for the driver side mounting.) Verify the location(s) the customer desires for the tether mounting. Center punch and cut a 19 mm hole in the rear shelf using a hole saw. Reinstall the rear shelf. Install the tether eye kit(s) in the desired position(s).
