Revised Rear Seat Squab - Removal Procedure
ISSUE:
The rear seat for 1997 MY Sedan Range vehicles has been redesigned to incorporate a 3-point seat belt for the center occupant. In addition, the belts exit through the top of the squab. This bulletin provides the procedure for removing the revised rear seat squab.
The procedure must be followed to avoid damaging the rear seat belt escutcheons.
ACTION:
REMOVAL
1. Turn the heel board fasteners 1/4 turn and remove the finisher.
2. After removing the two screws, remove the rear seat cushion.
3. Raise the seat belt at the rear of each of the escutcheons to expose the two rectangular openings in the front top face.
4. Insert a flat-bladed screwdriver vertically through each opening to release each front tang (Illustration 1). Slightly raise each portion of the front edge adjacent to the split in the molding, as each tang is released, to prevent it from reengaging.
5. Slide the escutcheon forward to release the rear tang (Illustration 1). Disengage the escutcheon from the seat belt and remove it.
6. Remove the three bolts retaining the seat belt anchor plates and right rear buckle.
7. Remove the four screws that secure the squab (Illustration 2).
8. Pull the lower edge of the squab forward (Illustration 3), then raise the squab to clear the seat belt reels. Pass the seat belts through the openings in the seat.
9. Remove the squab and headrests from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
1. Position the rear seat squab/headrest assembly in the vehicle.
2. Pass the seat belts through the openings in the seat.
3. Hook the seat squab over the seat belt reel assemblies (Illustration 3).
4. Press down at the top of the squab after swinging the squab down.
5. Install the four screws to retain the seat squab (Illustration 2).
6. Install the three bolts to retain seat belt anchor plates and the right rear buckle. Torque to 22 - 29 lb. ft. (30 - 40 Nm.)
7. Place the escutcheons around the seat belts. Engage the escutcheons at the rear, then press down at the front.
8. Install the rear seat cushion.
9. Install the heel boards.
