VIN

ISSUE:
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) legislation has been enacted requiring the MANDATORY installation of a Passenger Airbag Warning Label to all vehicles manufactured on or after 25th February 1997 Jaguar Canada has a voluntary agreement with Transport Canada to extend the action to Canadian markets.
The introduction for Sedan Range models commences at VIN 803864, with affected vehicles being available for sale from late-March/early-April 1997 onwards.
This legislation requires that the label should be positioned so that it is clearly visible to the driver at the time of the vehicle being handed over when first sold as a new vehicle.
ACTION:
A Passenger Airbag Warning Label, printed on one side in English and on the reverse in French, is supplied with each vehicle for North American Markets, from the above VIN. The label is supplied complete with an elastic cord to retain it in position, and should be found located on the passenger's glovebox lid, as illustrated in this bulletin.
It is MANDATORY that this label should remain attached to the glovebox lid at the time of delivery of the new vehicle to the customer. Dealers are requested to hold a small number of spare labels in their parts stock to cover the possibility of loss or damage to the original factory-supplied label during the delivery cycle, or should a label become detached and lost while a vehicle is on display in a showroom.
Dealers should ensure that personnel responsible for new vehicle preparation are fully aware of the content of this technical bulletin, together with all sales staff responsible for the delivery of new vehicles to customers, so that compliance with the NHTSA legislation is observed.
NOTE:
This check is part of the new car dealer preparation.
THE FOLLOWING ACTION IS MANDATORY IN USA AND CANADA.
PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LABEL
Under NHTSA legislation this instruction applies to all vehicles from VIN 803864.
Check the following during final dealer preparation of a new vehicle for delivery to the customer, particularly where the vehicle has previously been exhibited in a showroom prior to sale:
^ Ensure that the passenger airbag warning label, already in or on the glovebox of the vehicle, is attached in a prominent position on the front of the glovebox lid, as illustrated below, with the English text facing outwards, so that the label will be fully visible to the customer.
^ In French-speaking regions of Canada, the label should be reversed, to that the French text faces outwards.
^ Should the label be missing or damaged, supply and attach a new label.
POSITIONING AIR BAG WARNING LABEL
1. Place the elastic cord around and behind the glove box latch as shown in A, Illustration 1.
2. Stretch the elastic and position the tag inside as shown in B, Illustration 1.
3. Adjust the label so that it is positioned neatly over the recess for the glovebox latch as in C, illustration 1.
Make sure that the appropriate language for the intended market is facing outward.
