L1: CHECK THE KNOCK SENSOR FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION
1. Switch the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Service and Repair
3. Check the knock sensor for correct installation
Is the knock sensor correctly installed?
Yes
Go to L2
No
INSTALL the knock sensor correctly. CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
L2: CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE KNOCK SENSOR
1. Lower the vehicle.
2. Remove the plastic engine cover.
3. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector PI27.
4. Measure the resistance between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 1, (WR) and pin 2, (SR).
Is the resistance between 4.5 and 5.5 M ohms?
Yes
Go to L3
No
INSTALL a new knock sensor. CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
L3: CHECK THE KNOCK SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
1. Remove the powertrain control module (PC M).
2. Measure the resistance between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 1, (WR) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 52, (WR).
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 1, (WR) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 52, (WR). INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to L4
L4: CHECK THE KNOCK SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
1. Measure the resistance between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 1, (WR) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 1, (WR) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 52, (WR). INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to L5
L5: CHECK THE KNOCK SENSOR SIGNAL GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
1. Measure the resistance between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 2, (SR) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 43, (SR).
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 2, (SR) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 43, (SR). INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to L6
L6: CHECK THE KNOCK SENSOR SIGNAL GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
1. Measure the resistance between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 2, (SR) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the knock sensor electrical connector PI27 pin 2, (SR) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 43, (SR). INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
