D1: CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR AT PIN 4
1. Switch the ignition to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector PI16.
3. Switch the ignition to the RUN position.
4. Measure the voltage between the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 4, (Y) and ground.
Is the voltage between 4 and 6 volts?
Yes
Go to D2
No
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 4, (Y) and the spliced joint PIS5. CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
D2: CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR AT PIN 3
1. Measure the voltage between the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 3, (Y) and ground.
Is the voltage between 4 and 6 volts?
Yes
Go to D5
No
Go to D3
D3: CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR FOR OPEN
1. Switch the ignition to the OFF position.
2. Measure the resistance between the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 3, (Y) and ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 3, (Y) and the powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connector PI1 pin 48, (Y). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to D4
D4: CHECK THE VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR FOR SHORT TO GROUND
1. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM).
2. Measure the resistance between the throttle position (TP) sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 3, (Y) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 3, (Y) and the powertrain control module (PCM) electrical connector PI1 pin 48, (Y). INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). For additional information, refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
D5: CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL GROUND PIN 7 WIRE FOR OPEN
1. Switch the ignition to the OFF position.
2. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 7, (N) and ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 7, (N) and the spliced joint PIS6. CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to D6
D6: CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FOR OPEN AT PIN 10
1. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM).
2. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 10, (W) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 57 (W).
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 10, (W) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 57, (W). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to D7
D7: CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FOR OPEN AT PIN 1
1. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 1, (WR) and powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 59, (WR).
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 1, (WR) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 59, (WR). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to D8
D8: CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FOR OPEN AT PIN 2
1. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 2, (W) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 58, (W).
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 2, (W) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 58, (W). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to D9
D9: CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FOR OPEN AT PIN 6
1. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 6, (N) and ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 6, (N) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 15, (N). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
Go to D10
D10: CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FOR SHORT TO GROUND AT PIN 6
1. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM).
2. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 6, (N) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 6, (N) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 15(N). INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No

D11: CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FOR SHORT TO GROUND AT PIN 2
1. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 2, (W) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 2, (W) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 58, (W). INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.

1. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 10, (W) and ground.

REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 10, (W) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 57, (W). INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.

D14: CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL GROUND PIN 7 WIRE FOR SHORT TO GROUND
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Service and Repair
2. Disconnect both heated exhaust gas oxygen (HEGO) sensor electrical connectors PI6, PI7.
3. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector PI12.
4. Disconnect the engine fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9.
5. Disconnect the cylinder head temperature sensor electrical connector PI13.
6. Disconnect both camshaft position sensor electrical connectors PI10, PI11.
7. Disconnect the injection pressure sensor electrical connector IL2.
8. Measure the resistance between the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16 pin 7, (N) and ground
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the throttle position (TP) sensor PI16 pin 7, (N) and the spliced joint PIS5. INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). For additional information, refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
