I : DTC P0180
I1: CHECK THE ELECTRONIC FUEL TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE
1. Switch the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. REMOVE the plastic engine cover.
3. Disconnect the electronic fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9.
4. Carry out the Fuel Temperature Sensor Component Test. For additional information, refer to the procedure in this section: Fuel Temperature Sensor.
Is the fuel temperature sensor ok?
Yes
Go to I2
No
INSTALL a new fuel temperature sensor. CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
I2: CHECK THE SIGNAL GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
1. Measure the resistance between the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9 pin 2, (NU) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
Go to I3
No
REPAIR the circuit between the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9 pin 2, (NU) and the spliced joint PIS6. CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
I3: CHECK THE INPUT CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
1. Remove the powertrain control module (PCM).
2. Measure the resistance between the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9 pin 1, (WU) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 47, (WU).
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
Go to I4
No
REPAIR the circuit between the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9 pin 1, (WU) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 47, (WU). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
I4: CHECK THE INPUT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
1. Measure the resistance between the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9 pin 1, (WU) and ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
Go to I5
No
REPAIR the circuit between the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9 pin 1, (WU) and the powertrain control module electrical connector PI1 pin 47, (WU). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
I5: CHECK THE SIGNAL GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Disconnect both heated exhaust gas oxygen (HEGO) sensor electrical connectors PI6, PI7.
3. Disconnect the engine oil temperature sensor electrical connector PI12.
4. Disconnect the cylinder head temperature sensor electrical connector PI13.
5. Disconnect both camshaft position sensor electrical connectors PI10, PI11.
6. Disconnect the injection pressure sensor electrical connector IL2.
7. Disconnect the throttle position sensor electrical connector PI16.
8. Measure the resistance between the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9 pin 2, (NU) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit between the fuel temperature sensor electrical connector IL9 pin 2, (NU) and the spliced joint P1S6. INSTALL the powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
INSTALL a new powertrain control module (PCM). CLEAR DTC. TEST the system for normal operation.
