A-Bank Camshaft Sensor Harness Contacting EGR Pipe - Check/Install Tie Strap - Service Action S704
Issue:
Some XJR supercharged vehicles within the above VIN range may have the camshaft sensor harness tie strap missing. This may result in the harness hanging down and coming into contact with the EGR transfer pipe.
Action:
At the next service opportunity, check all XJR supercharged vehicles listed in the VIN list for the tie strap. If no tie strap is present, install a new tie strap to eliminate this concern.
TIE STRAP CHECK
1. Open the hood and place protective covers over the fenders.
2. Look down into the area shown in Illustration 1.
3. The tie strap (if fitted) locates around the camshaft sensor harness behind the oil dipstick (Illustration 2).
NOTE:
If no tie strap is present, proceed to the engine harness routing modification below.
ENGINE HARNESS ROUTING MODIFICATION
1. Open the hood and place protective covers over the fenders.
2. Undo and remove the engine compartment right hand cover securing screw (Illustration 3).
3. Remove the right hand engine cover (Illustration 4).
4. Remove the engine compartment rear cover quarter turn fastener (Illustration 5).
5. Remove the engine compartment rear cover (Illustration 6).
NOTE:
Locate the camshaft sensor harness by tracing it back from the connector shown in Illustration 7.
The camshaft harness connector is shown as item 1 (Illustration 7).
6. Reposition the engine harness lower branch lead to the upper branch lead and using the tie strap, secure the branch leads together (Illustration 8).
7. Cut and remove the protruding end from the tie strap.
8. Seat and align engine compartment rear cover.
9. Tighten the engine compartment rear cover quarter turn fastener.
10. Seat and align the engine compartment right hand cover.
11. Tighten the engine compartment right hand cover securing screw.
12. Remove the fender protection covers and close the hood.
