Hesitation When Gold -
Supercharged AJ 27 Engines - Reflash ECM
Issue:
Customers of some 2001 MY XKR, XJR and VDP SC vehicles, within the above VIN ranges, may complain of hesitation when pulling away from a standing start during the initial warmup period.
Action:
To eliminate hesitation from standing start during the initial warm up period, reprogram the Electronic Control Module (ECM) using latest level release of the Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) software (JTP759/11 or higher).
On a customer complaint basis only, follow the workshop procedure outlined below.
WORKSHOP PROCEDURE
Note:
Continue with the WDS already loaded with the latest level software (JTP 759/11 or later).
1. Position the WDS alongside vehicle, switch "ON" Portable Test Unit (PTU) and allow software to load.
2. Connect the PTU to the vehicle via the diagnostic cable.
3. Enter the VIN and navigate to "Content Model Screen", select "Engine System", and then go to DTC monitor.
4. Read engine DTCs, if any are stored clear from memory.
Note:
If any DTCs are stored, find the fault and proceed with separate warranty claim.
5. Navigate to configuration main menu, select and run "Re-configure existing ECM".
6. After re-configuration of ECM is complete, switch "OFF" the PTU, disconnect the cable and return the WDS to original location.
7. On XKR vehicles, apply the generic label (JJM 998499/20) alongside the VCATS label in the luggage compartment. Add the revised part number LNG 1410AF and date of reconfiguration to the generic update label (Illustration 1).
On XJR or VDP SC vehicles, apply the generic label (JJM 998499/20) alongside the VCATS label in the luggage compartment. Add the revised part number LNG 1410AF and date of re-configuration to the generic update label (Illustration 2).
8. Enter your dealer number and the date on the Authorized Modification Label as shown (Illustration 3). Write in "Reflash per TSB 303-53." Apply the label to the driver side B-post below the door striker plate on XK8 vehicles, and next to the left hood hinge on V8 XJ Series. Be sure to apply the clear protective sheet over the label.
