Cooling System: Service and Repair


Removal
All Vehicles
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding
3. Reclaim the air conditioning refrigerant. For additional information, refer to Heating and AC.

Vehicles With 3.0L Engine
4. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to Powertrain Management.





5. Remove the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to Powertrain Management.
6. Remove the upper shield.

Vehicles With 4.0L Engine
7. Remove the air cleaner. For additional information, refer to Powertrain Management.

All Vehicles





8. Remove the radiator mounting brackets.





9. Detach the upper coolant hose.





10. Disconnect the electric fan motor and air conditioning pressure switch electrical connectors.





11. Disconnect the electrical connector.

Vehicles With 4.0L Engine





12. Disconnect the auxiliary water pump electrical connector.





13. Detach the air conditioning receiver dryer.





14. Detach the auxiliary water pump.

All Vehicles





15. Detach the air conditioning receiver dryer.





16. Disconnect the heater valve electrical connector.





17. Disconnect the power steering fluid cooler line.
^ Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.





18. Disconnect the power steering fluid cooler line.





19. NOTE: Seal the line and the evaporator with plugs

Detach the air conditioning line.





20. Raise the vehicle.
21. Remove the lower radiator splash shield.





22. Remove the radiator splash shield.
1. Detach the securing clips.
2. Remove the radiator splash shield.





23. NOTE: Seal the line and the evaporator with plugs

Detach the air conditioning line.





24. Detach the lower coolant hose.





25. Detach the automatic transmission oil cooler lines.
^ Allow the fluid to drain into a suitable container.





26. Remove the cooling module.

Installation








1. NOTE: Install new 'O' ring seals and coat them with refrigerant oil.








To install, reverse the removal procedure.
