Differential Assembly: Service and Repair
Removal
1. Remove the axle shafts.
2. CAUTION: Under no circumstances must the flexible coupling (or its fixings) be loosened or removed from the driveshaft
Detach the driveshaft from the differential flange.
^ Mark the position of the driveshaft in relation to the differential flange.
^ Mark the position of the balance nut in relation to the differential flange (if fitted).
^ Mark the position of each nut and bolt in relation to the transmission flexible joint.
3. Disconnect the axle assembly breather tube from the crossmember.
4. CAUTION: When supporting the axle assembly, use a suitable packing material to prevent damage to the underside of the casing.
Support the axle assembly.
5. NOTE: Take care not to lose the washer when removing the forward axle retaining bolt.
Remove the axle assembly.
Installation
1. NOTE: Take care not to mix up the washer positions when installing the forward axle retaining bolt.
NOTE: Make sure that the driveshaft nuts and bolts are refitted in the correct locations.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
