Door Difficult To Close - Blocked Seal Evacuation Holes - Repair Procedure

Issue:

On some 2002 MY-ON X-TYPE vehicles, customers may report excessive effort required to close any or all of the side doors. This concern can be caused by the seal evacuation holes being blocked in the primary (door) or secondary (body side) seals around the door or door opening.

The holes are cut into the seal but the material is not removed from the holes, which may cause the concern. Clearing out the holes will allow the air to escape from the seals on closure.

Action:

In case of a verified customer complaint of hard closure of any or all of the side doors, on a 2002 MY-on X-TYPE, follow the workshop procedure outlined below.

WORKSHOP PROCEDURE

1. Open left-hand front side door.





2. Check primary door seal evacuation holes, remove any material blocking any of the cut holes (Illustration 1).





3. Check secondary door seal evacuation holes, remove material blocking any of the cut holes (Illustration 2).

4. Close left-hand front side door.

5. Carry out steps 1 to 4 to the remaining three side doors.
