Hissing Noise/Driveability Issues -
DTC P017/1P0174 - Leaking IMT 0-ring -
IMT 0-ring Available Separately

Issue:

Some 2002 MY-ON X-TYPE vehicles may exhibit drivability/hesitation concerns.
Customers may also complain about a hissing noise from under the hood.
The concern may be caused by a vacuum leak from the 0-ring seal on the Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) valve.
The 0-ring is now available separately to avoid the need to replace the entire valve.

Action:

In case of a customer complaint of the above condition check whether the Intake Manifold Tuning (IMT) valve 0-ring seal has failed. If so, DO NOT replace the IMT valve since the 0-ring seal is now a serviceable item. Follow the workshop procedure outlined below.

WORKSHOP PROCEDURE

Installing a new upper IMT valve 0-ring seal.

1. Open hood and install fender protection covers.

2. Disconnect the IMT valve electrical connector and reposition harness.

3. Remove the IMI valve securing bolts and displace and remove the IMI valve from the intake manifold. Remove and discard the 0-ring seal (Illustration 1).

4. Using suitable lubricant, lubricate a new 0-ring seal.

5. Install the new 0-ring seal to the IMT valve.

6. Install and align the IMT valve to the intake manifold.

7. Install and tighten the IMT valve securing bolts.

8. Reposition harness and connect the IMT valve electrical connector.

9. Remove fender protection covers and close hood.

5. Using suitable lubricant, lubricate a new 0-ring seal.

6. Install the new 0-ring seal to the lower IMT valve.
