Misfire/Hesitation When Cold - Possible MIL Illumination - Reprogram ECM

Issue:

Some 2002 MY X-TYPE vehicles may experience a misfire or hesitation when cold, along with possible illumination of the MIL. DTCs P0300-P0306 may be present.

Action:

In case of a customer complaint only, on X-TYPE 2.5/3.0L vehicles within the above VIN range that exhibit this particular concern, reprogram the Engine Control Module (ECM) using the Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) software release JTP 759/18 or later.

REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE

Note:
Ensure WDS is loaded with software release JTP 759/18 or later.

1. Position the WDS alongside vehicle, switch the Portable Test Unit (PTU) 'ON' and allow the software to load.

2. Connect the PTU to the vehicle Data Link Connector using the diagnostic cable.

3. Enter VIN and navigate to the vehicle configuration main menu.

4. Select 'configure existing module' application, followed by 'Engine Control Module'.

5. After completing the reprogramming of the ECM, switch OFF the PTU and return the WDS to its original location.
