Parking Brake Lever Replacement -
Manual Transmission Vehicles Only -
RECALL R957
Issue:
A concern has been identified on a number of X-TYPE manual transmission vehicles within the above VIN range.
The manual transmission vehicle, having been parked by the driver on an incline with the parking brake "ON" and the vehicle "out of gear", could sometime later "roll away". The parking brake lever may not be applied sufficiently by the driver to allow for the reduction in parking brake pad clamp force as the brake components contract due to cooling.
Action:
Jaguar Cars has decided to recall all manual vehicles within the above VIN range to replace the automatic adjustment parking brake lever with the latest production manual adjustment parking brake lever.
To replace the parking brake lever, refer to Global Technical Reference (GTR), Workshop Manual, section 206-05, Parking Brake Control, SRO 70.35.08. Jaguar Cars will be writing to all owners of affected vehicles requesting them to contact their nearest dealer, as soon as possible, to arrange for the parking brake lever to be replaced at the earliest opportunity.
Parts Information:
Note:
Only manual transmission vehicles within the VIN range, which are listed in the bulletin, are to receive a replacement parking brake lever assembly.
Since the parking brake levers are color keyed to the interior trim, please use the list of affected vehicles (USA pages 3-34; Canada pages 35-37) that have been sold by your dealership along with their interior color to determine your initial parts ordering requirements. Please keep in mind that some of these vehicles may no longer be in your dealership's area of responsibility and as such the total quantity required may vary from what is indicated. Please order only a limited quantity to get started through normal procurement channels.
The bulletin is available in advance of the customer mailing so that you can obtain an initial stock of parts in preparation for customer vehicles.
To help determine the actual number of parts required by your dealership, please visit the Service Support Web site to access the spreadsheet which identifies the number of vehicles sold by your dealership that are affected by recall R957. The spreadsheet is accessible by clicking the document link in the VIN column. The spreadsheet can be manipulated to suit your own needs. Please order according to actual demand.
Warranty Information:
Warranty claims should be submitted quoting program code R957 together with the applicable option code from the table.
The options that include the drive in/drive out allowance can only be claimed if the vehicle is brought back into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.
