Windshield Washer - Reservoir Leak

Washer Fluid Leakage At Front Fender - Leak At Elbows - Repair Procedure

Issue:

Some 2002-04 X-TYPE vehicles within the above VIN range may exhibit a leak from the area of the windshield washer reservoir.

Action:

Should a customer express concern of a leak from the windshield washer bottle area, which is confirmed to be coming from the front windshield washer pump elbows, remove and discard the elbows. Connect the washer pipes installed directly onto the windshield washer pump stub pipes. Follow the workshop procedure outlined below.

WORKSHOP PROCEDURE

1. Install fender protection covers.

2. Open windshield reservoir cap.

3. Using a suitable suction device, remove fluid from reservoir into a suitable container.

4. Remove right hand front wheel and tire (see Workshop Manual, section: 204-04, SRO 74.20.05).





5. Remove the front section of the right hand wheel arch liner securing screws (Illustration 1).

6. Displace and reposition the wheel arch liner to gain access to windshield washer pump.





7. Disconnect both windshield washer hoses from the windshield washer pump elbows, noting positions of front and rear hoses for reconnection purposes (Illustration 2 - Wagon shown).

Note:
Sedan vehicles have only one washer pump elbow.

8. Remove and discard the windshield washer pump elbows.





9. Connect the windshield washer hoses directly on to the windshield washer pump stub pipes, ensuring the hoses are still slack so that there is no restriction to flow (Illustration 3 - Wagon shown).

10. Clean any spilled washer fluid.

11. Reposition wheel arch liner to original position.

12. Install and tighten the wheel arch liner securing screws.

13. Install right hand front wheel and tire (see Global Technical Reference GTR Workshop Manual, section: 204-04, SRO 74.20.05).

14. Refill windshield washer reservoir.

15. Close reservoir cap.

16. Remove fender protection covers and close hood.

17. Ensure windshield washers are working correctly.

18. Close door.
