Battery Quiescent Drain - Wipers In Intermittent- Service Action S843
Issue:
A concern has been identified of possible premature battery drain on a number of 2001-02 MY XK Range vehicles within the above VIN range.
The battery could become discharged if the ignition is switched to 'OFF' with either of the following conditions:
^ The wiper switch in intermittent mode; position 1 or 2.
^ The wiper switch in auto wiper mode with the wipers still sweeping, with the vehicle locked after 15 seconds.
The instrument pack will continue to request Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) network status messages preventing the modules from entering 'sleep mode', resulting in quiescent drain increasing from 25 mA to 660 mA. This will reduce the stand time from a specified period of 1 month+ to 1 or 2 days.
To eliminate this condition a replacement link lead is now available that changes the windshield wiper switch from direct-to-ground to ignition-switched-ground, effectively disconnecting the wiper switch when the ignition is switched to 'Off'.
Action:
Install a replacement link lead, at the next service opportunity, as described in the procedure.

Warranty claims should be submitted quoting program code S843 together with the relevant option code from the table. This will result in payment of the stated time and, where applicable, parts/miscellaneous expense codes.
The option that allows for drive in/drive out can only be claimed if the vehicle has been brought into the workshop for this action alone to be undertaken.
