Transmission Fluid Level Check
Transmission Fluid Level CheckSnap-on tool FRDHM10
8 mm Hexagonal Socket
Torque Wrench
1. The follow steps must be observed before starting the transmission fluid level check.
1. The vehicle must be on a horizontal ramp.
2. The parking brake must be applied.
3. The engine must be running for 2 minutes with the transmission selector lever in the 'P position.
2. Connect the Jaguar Approved Diagnostic System.
3. Make sure the transmission selector lever is in the 'P' position.
4. NOTE: Make sure the transmission fluid temperature is below 30°C (86°F) on the Jaguar Approved Diagnostic System.
With the engine running and the foot brake applied, circulate the transmission fluid by:
1. Moving the transmission selector lever to the 'R' position
2. Waking for three seconds.
3. Moving the transmission selector lever to the 'D' position
4. Waking for three seconds.
5. Moving the transmission selector lever to the 'P' position
5. Raise and support the vehicle.
6. Place a suitable container under the transmission fluid filler plug.
7. WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT CARE IS EXERCISED NEAR ROTATING PARTS. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
With the engine running, install a suitable 8 mm hexagonal socket into the transmission fluid filler plug.
8. Using the Snap-on tool FRDHM10 and a 3/8 inch square drive bar, loosen the transmission fluid filler plug.
^ Remove the Snap-on tool FRDHM10.
9. Remove the transmission fluid filler plug.
^ Remove the hexagonal socket.
^ Remove and discard the sealing washer.
10. NOTE: Use transmission fluid meeting Jaguar specification.
If the transmission fluid does not come out of the transmission fluid filler plug hole the transmission fluid level is insufficient. If this is the case add the transmission fluid in 0.5 liter units into the transmission fluid filler plug hole until fluid comes out.
11. NOTE: Make sure the transmission fluid temperature does not exceed 50°C (122°F). If the transmission fluid temperature does exceed 50°C (122°F) stop the transmission fluid level check and allow the transmission fluid to cool unfit the temperature is below 30°C (88°F).
Allow the transmission fluid to drain from the transmission fluid filler plug hole until the flow almost stops.
12. Install the transmission fluid filler plug.
^ Install a new sealing washer.
^ Install the hexagonal socket.
13. Install the Snap-on tool FRDHM10 to the hexagonal Socket.
14. CAUTION: Make sure the transmission fluid filler plug is tightened to the correct specification. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the vehicle.
Using the Snap-on tool FRDHM10 and a torque wrench, tighten the transmission fluid filler plug.
1. Effective length of the torque adaptor.
2. Effective length of the torque wrench.
^ Tighten to 35 Nm.
^ To make sure the transmission fluid filler plug is torqued to the correct specification using the Snap-on tool FRDHM10 and a torque wrench the following calculation steps must be followed:
^ Step 1. Multiply 35 Nm by the effective length of the torque wrench (2).
^ Step 2. Add the effective length of the torque adaptor (1) to the effective length of the torque wrench (2).
^ Step 3. Divide the total of Step 1 by the total of Step 2.
15. Remove the Snap-on tool FRDHM10.
16. WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT CARE IS EXERCISED NEAR ROTATING PARTS. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THIS INSTRUCTION MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.
Remove the hexagonal socket.
17. Remove the container.
18. Lower the vehicle.
19. Disconnect the Jaguar Approved Diagnostic System.
