Stabilizer Bar: Service and Repair



Stabilizer Bar

Removal

1. Raise front of vehicle and support on stands.





2. Remove generator front cooling duct.
^ Remove bolt.
^ Move duct rearwards to release tang from under tray.
^ Release front duct from rear vertical duct.





3. Remove scrivets or screws securing under tray to bumper cover. Discard scrivets.





4. Remove and discard tie strap securing under tray to crossbeam brace.





5. At each side of vehicle, remove and discard scrivet securing under tray to wheel arch liner.





6. Release stabilizer bar from link arms.
^ Remove stabilizer bar to link arm ball joint securing nut.
^ Repeat operation at opposite end of stabilizer bar.





7. Slacken stabilizer bar securing bolts.





8. NOTE: On vehicles fitted with an engine oil cooler, it may be necessary to release the stabilizer bar from each ball joint in turn to achieve the required clearance from cooler pipes.

Remove stabilizer bar from crossbeam.
^ Remove stabilizer bar securing bolts.
^ Remove stabilizer bar and mounting brackets from crossbeam.





9. Remove mounting brackets and rubbers from stabilizer bar.

Installation
1. Apply suitable lubricant to mounting rubbers.





2. Install mounting rubbers on stabilizer bar.





3. NOTE: Ensure mounting rubbers seat correctly between flanges.

Install and fully seat mounting brackets on rubbers.





4. Position stabilizer bar assembly on link arms and install but do not tighten ball joint securing nuts.





5. Install stabilizer bar mounting bolts.
^ Install but do not tighten stabilizer bar LH mounting bracket securing bolts.
^ Install stabilizer bar RH mounting bracket securing bolts and tighten to 30 - 40 Nm.
^ Tighten LH mounting bracket bolts to 30 - 40 Nm.





6. Secure link arms to stabilizer bar.
^ Tighten LH link arm ball joint to stabilizer bar securing nut to 60 - 80 Nm.
^ Tighten RH link arm ball joint to stabilizer bar securing nut to 60 - 80 Nm.





7. Using screws or new scrivets, secure under tray to front bumper cover.





8. Using a new tie strap, secure under tray to crossbeam brace.





9. Using new scrivets, secure under tray to each wheel arch liner.





10. Install generator cooling duct deflector.
^ Position deflector over rear vertical duct.
^ Slide deflector forward to engage center tang over under tray.
^ Install bolt and tighten to 17 - 23 Nm.
11. Raise front of vehicle, remove stands and lower vehicle onto wheels.
