Engine MIL Illuminated with DTC P0128 Stored

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

XK (X100) 4.2L Supercharged only
VIN: A30645-A48684
Model Year: 2004 - 2006

CONDITION SUMMARY:

NOTE:
DTC P0128 may be stored in the ECM after completing J004. Improvements to the diagnostics strategy may identify a fault in the Thermostat operation and in some cases may cause a "false flag" of this DTC in the ECM.

Situation:
On XK vehicles with the 4.2L Supercharged engine only, the engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may be illuminated with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0128 stored in the Engine Control Module. This may be caused by the calibration not robust to part-warm restart.

NOTE:
Technicians must follow basic diagnosis for DTC P0128 as per the Workshop Manual. Only after completing this diagnosis, and repair if necessary, should the ECM software be updated.

Action:
In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to update the Engine Control Module software.

PARTS:
