Rear Sensor Lead Incorrect Routing -
Replace/Reroute Lead
Issue:
Some 2005 MY S-TYPE vehicles within the above VIN range, may exhibit a condition where the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is illuminated, with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C1175 (left-hand rear) or C1165 (right-hand rear) stored. This can be caused by incorrect routing of the rear ABS sensor lead, causing abrasion of the wire and water ingress.
Action:
In case of a customer complaint of the above condition, install and reroute a new rear ABS sensor lead following the procedure below.
1. Remove rear wheel (GTR Workshop Manual, section: 204-04).
Caution:
Make sure the ignition is in the "OFF" position before disconnecting the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector.
2. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector (Illustration 1).
3. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor lead electrical connector (Illustration 1).
4. Cut and remove the cable tie securing the ABS sensor lead to the upper control arm, and remove lead.
5. Connect the new rear wheel speed sensor lead electrical connector (Illustration 1).
6. Connect the rear wheel speed sensor electrical connector (Illustration 1).
7. Install a new cable tie over the center inboard casting dimple to secure the new ABS sensor lead in the new position. Trim excess cable tie (Illustration 1).
8. Install the rear road wheel (see Global Technical Reference GTR Workshop Manual, section: 204-04).
Note:
Ensure WDS is loaded with software release JTP 759/41 or later.
9. With Portable Test Unit (PTU) already connected to the vehicle.
10. Navigate and clear DTCs.
11. Switch "OFF" PTU, disconnect from vehicle and return WDS to original location.
