Engine Controls - Engine Detonation on Acceleration

CONDITION SUMMARY:

DETONATION (PINGING) ON LIGHT ACCELERATION AND UNDER ENGINE LOAD

Situation:
The engine detonation may be the result of engine control module (ECM) calibration.

Action:
Should a customer express concern, re-configure the ECM using the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS). Follow the Repair Procedure outlined below.

IDS DVD 105 with Patch File 6 loaded OR later

REPAIR PROCEDURE

ECM PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE

CAUTION:
A Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnostic sessions. This procedure requires IDS DVD105 Patch File 6
software or later.

1. Connect the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply to the vehicle battery.

2. Connect IDS to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session by entering the correct VIN for the current vehicle.

3. When prompted "Do you wish to read diagnostic trouble codes?" select "NO" and then press "tick" to continue.

4. Select "Vehicle Configuration" and then "Module Programming"

5. From the menu select "Configure Existing Modules".

6. Select and run 'Engine Control Module (ECM)".

7. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete the ECM programming task.

8. When the task is completed, exit the current session.

9. Disconnect IDS and the battery charger/power supply.
