CONDITION SUMMARY:

NOISE FROM THE WIND DEFLECTOR WHEN THE SUNROOF IS OPEN

Situation:
A customer may report a concern of a noise coming from the wind deflector while driving with the the sunroof open.

Wind deflector chattering may be the cause.

Action:
Should a customer express this concern, refer to the Repair Procedure detailed in this bulletin and install a wind deflector seal.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

INSTALL WIND DEFLECTOR SEAL





1. Open the roof opening panel completely. (Figure 1)





NOTE:
The wind deflector has two anti-rattle buffers over each deflector "stop". The deflector stops are located at each end and at the leading edge of the deflector. (Figure 2)

2. Carefully pull back the wind deflector in the location of one "stop".





3. Pull the "stop" rearward and clear of the roof panel aperture. (Figure 3)

4. Repeat step 2 and 3 for the deflector "stop" on the opposite end of the wind deflector.





5. Lift the wind deflector vertically so that the end of the leaf spring disconnects from the rearward cut-out. (Figure 4)

6. Pull the leaf spring forward, sliding underthe side track rail, and out of the forward cut-out.

7. Repeat step 6 for the opposite side leaf spring.





8. Lift the wind deflector and remove it from the roof opening panel. (Figure 5)





9. Install the seal to the wind deflector groove feature, ensuring the seal is centrally located. (Figure 6)





10. Check orientation of seal, ensuring that the seal is facing forward. (Figure 7)





11. Insert the end of the leaf spring into the forward side track rail cut-out and slide it rearward under the rail until the end locates into the rearward cut-out. (Figure 8)





12. Lower the wind deflector, ensuring that the forward facing flip of the seal lips under the roof panel aperture. (Figure 9)

13. Carefully pull back the wind deflector in the location of a "stop".

14. Pull back the "stop" and insert beneath the aperture.

15. Carry out step 13 and 14 for the opposite side "stop" of the wind deflector.

16. Fully close roof opening panel and check for correct operation.
